THINKING FAST AND SLOW

– BOOK RECCOMENDATION

It’s a very popular book that of course does contain a narrative but one that I personally feel acts as more of a resource. You can dip in and out of chapters as and when you need certain information.

Upon my first reading it made me aware of how easily tricked we can be. Almost like having the shield removed on “how the world works” and being able to take a peek inside. I mention this here as data science student because I think it helps develop the decision making process.

When I first read Kahneman’s book in 2012-13, it shook my worldview into pieces and left me scrambling to fit it all back together. My main interest at the time was moral philosophy because I wanted to know the answer to the question “what ought I do?” After reading the book I was left with the impression that trying to reason through a complicated issue like moral philosophy, _before learning how to reason_, was pretty much a useless project. I’m still learning how to do reasoning, but at least now I feel like I know more about its limitations.
